Royal BVI Yacht Club

The home of sailing,

in the sailing capital of the world!

RBVIYC Adult & Family Sailing

The RBVIYC runs an active yachting calendar for anyone with a desire to go sailing! We run cruises, races, and training programmes, and many of our members participate in regattas across the Caribbean and the World. You can find out more information about our cruise, training and racing programmes below, or alternatively contact us for more information.

If you would just like to "get out on the water", why not join us for the IC24 Beer Can races on Friday evenings. Anyone who would like to sail is welcome; assemble at Nanny Cay IC24 dock around 5pm and ask someone for a ride! The racing is informal and a lot of fun at the end of a hard week. Check the Royal BVI Yacht Club Facebook page for more information!

Information on our latest sailing events, training and charter rates is available on our Sailing Events & Notices page. Race Results and a Photo Gallery are available here. If you are interested in entering one of our races and would like some more information on it, please download our guide to races here.

Cruising

We organise several cruising events during the course of the year. We welcome anyone who wants to join us on board, and we always have a lot of fun! You can simply enjoy the ride, or for those people interested in learning to sail a yacht, you are welcome to participate! This is an excellent way to develop confidence on board a yacht in a safe and non-pressured environment. Furthermore, very often our cruising events coincide with racing events, allowing cruisers to watch the action close-up and to participate in the after-race social activities!

Learn to Sail

We offer US Sail, RYA or American Sailing Accreditation programmes for anyone interested in learning to sail keelboats and yachts. The starter programmes include:

Basic Keelboat - A two morning course on board an IC-24 keelboat. IC-24's are the largest one-design keelboat class in the Caribbean, and provide an excellent grounding in sailing and boat handling.

Basic Cruising - A two day live-aboard course on board a 36'+ monohull yacht. This follows on from Basic Keelboat and provides an excellent introduction into yacht handling.

Bareboat Charter - A two day live-aboard course that follows on from Basic Cruising, also on a 36'+ monhull yacht. Successful completion of this course allows you to charter a yacht in your own right.

Many people choose to combine the Basic Cruising and Bareboat Charter courses into 4 continuous days. This allows the yacht to sail further afield, with visits to all four of the main British Virgin Islands, including Anegada.

More advanced courses are also available. Please contact us for further information on any of the RBVIYC Learn to Sail courses. You can download our price list here.

Racing

The RBVIYC runs an active racing calendar. Many of our racers participate in regattas across the Caribbean and further afield, so club racing is always competitive! Most of our yacht skippers are always on the look out for new crew members, so whatever your level of experience and ability you can usually find a boat to sail on. Contact us if you would like to crew on a yacht and we will endeavour to assist.

Many of our sailors race in the informal IC24 "Beer Can" racing out of Nanny Cay every Friday evening. Races last about an hour amd all comers are welcome. Skippers will always make room for you since we want to continue to grow the sailing community in the BVI. This is a great way to get involved in sailing, meet new friends and to unwind after a hard week!
